A huge thank you to Allison for allowing me to add these instructions to the site! This is by far the easiest way I've seen to make the boutique/butterfly bow. And she's kind enough to offer it here for FREE!

Revised Tutorial on How to
Make Your Butterfly Boutique Bow Have Perky Loops
**There's a dirty joke
in there somewhere, I just haven't found it yet.
The one I threw together
last night wasn't all that great, so I was requested to do a demo
with ribbon that had 2 different sides, so here goes! I am impressed
that I am sitting here even putting it in a Word Document.
Here is a list of the
lengths of ribbons I use for my bows. They may be a little off
depending on how long you like your tails.
1.5" Ribbon
4" Boutique = 28" of ribbon
4" Pinwheel = 23" of ribbon
3" Pinwheel= 18" of ribbon
7/8" ribbon
3.5" Boutique = 22.5" of ribbon
3 to 3.5" pinwheel = 19.5" of
ribbon
2 to 2.5" pinwheel = 14" of ribbon
5/8" Ribbon
2" half pinwheel (only do one loop on
each side) = 7" of ribbon
2.5" Pinwheel = 14" of ribbon
Now for the reason we are
all here:
Note: I liked some of the
pics I had in the last tute, so there is a mixture of the 1.5"
and the 7/8" ribbon.
I am making a 4"
boutique bow out of 1.5" ribbon.
I cut 28" and you should heat seal the ends now
and fold it in half making a crease.
This picture shows the crease marked with a black
pen (I don't do that on my real bows) so you can see it.
Make the top part of a figure 8 and put the tail
right over that crease that you made when you folded the ribbon in
half. Don't worry about it being perfectly centered, we can fix
that in a minute.
Fold the other end up and complete the figure 8.
Your 2 loops should be perfectly even and centered before you go
on to the next step. If you have a skinny figure 8, your loops
will be perkier.
Fat figure 8 will give you a flatter, less perky
bow
Now bring the one loop to the center and make sure
the loops are even.
Bring the other loop to the center making sure all
loops are even.
Slide your hand under the bow and carefully pick
it up, keeping a death grip on the center. From here, you can go
on and crease the center with your method of choice or you can go
on to the next step.
I flip my bow over, it
seems to crease better for me, don't really know why. I am
using cheap ribbon from hancocks tonight and it is slick and my
bow slipped a little in this pic.
Crease if you still haven't done it yet. And
secure the center however you choose to do it.
Finished 4 inch bow from 1.5" ribbon. It's a
little off because of the slippage in the earlier step, but you
get the idea.
